BRA’S FOR A CAUSE

At this year’s QA we will be raising awareness of women’s health issues. One of those will be breast cancer. You are invited to help create a display of decorated bras and will have an opportunity to vote for your favorite by purchasing opportunity tickets. There will be a prize for the designer of the bra which receives the most votes.  You will also have a chance to win your favorite in a drawing to be held on Saturday afternoon during the Bizarre Bazaar.

Who can decorate or design a bra? Anyone is encouraged to use their creative abilities to participate in our “Bras for a Cause” by submitting a decorated or designed Bra.

What are the guidelines There is no limit to what you can do. Your bra can be simple, complex decorated or designed.  Serious or whimsical, it is up to you to choose what you want to do and what materials to use. For inspiration, check out the www.Brasforacause.wordpress.com website to get ideas. We are asking for a $10.00 donation to accompany your entry.

What happens to the money raised? All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G Komen Foundation  www.5.komen.org

Do I have to use any special bra? No, you can make your own or buy one to serve as the foundation for your creation.

How do I register? Register by downloading the registration form HERE, filling it out and mailing it to the Quadrennial Assembly office along with your $10 check by June 1. You will receive confirmation by mail or email.

When and where does my finished bra go? You bring your bra with you to the QA and look for the sign indicating where to drop off your entry. Attach the identification form that will accompany your confirmation letter to the inside of the bra.

Hygiene Kits

During the Quadrennial Assembly we will be gathering items for heath/hygiene kits.  We will also be assembling them while we are there.  Here is a list of what is needed for each kit.  We hope that you will be able to bring some items for these kits, or enough for a whole kit.

In the face of natural disasters, violence, or grinding poverty, Hygiene Kits can mean the difference between sickness and health for struggling families.

To assemble a Hygiene Kit you will need:

  • One hand towel measuring approximately 16" x 28" (no fingertip or bath towels)
  • One washcloth
  • One wide-tooth comb
  • One nail clipper (no metal files or emery boards)
  • One bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
  • One toothbrush (in original packaging)
  • Six Band-Aids®
  • Seal all items in a one-gallon plastic bag with a zipper closure
  • $2 for shipping per kit

Please DO NOT add toothpaste to the Hygiene Kit. Toothpaste that has an extended expiration date will be added to Hygiene Kit shipments just prior to shipment.

Hygiene Kit value: $10
Processing/Shipping Cost: $2 per Kit

Opportunities to Share

Congregational Tableware:
Congregations are invited to bring a plate and a glass to the Quadrennial Assembly to be used for Communion in our worship experiences.  The plate and glass do not need to be your church's "best" china.  What we want is tableware that is commonly used for fellowship events in your congregation.

There will be a drop off station at the time of registration and a pick up station on Sunday following worship so that you can take your tableware back home with you.  Please mark the plate and glass with the name of your congregation and the name of the person who will be picking up the tableware at the end of quadrennial.

Thank you for sharing in the Quadrennial in this way,
The Worship and Plenary Team.

Bookmark Exchange:
Everyone is worthy of being honored.  You will have the opportunity during worship on Wednesday, June 23rd, to exchange a bookmark with someone you have never met.  You will also have a moment to share the title of a book that offered you some wisdom.

Books and Purses:
Please bring your gently used books (Adult and Children) and purses.  Sorting and organizing these items will take place during workshop times on June 25th.

Project Linus:
Pre-made knitted and crocheted blankets will be accepted.  Please go to www.projectlinus.org for guidelines on types of yarn that may be used.  Please turn in your completed projects by Saturday, June 26th.
